3 lessons about community from women’s leadership in protected landscapes
A few weeks ago my old boss, current friend and occasional mentor, Anita Kerwin-Nye held a fantastic online event to connect women leaders in protected landscapes.
Here are 3 takeaways:
Years of helping people succeed buys a tonne of goodwill
Anita has helped me so many times in my career. I didn’t hesitate to offer my time for free. I’d say yes to almost anything she asked as long as it fit my schedule.
The schedule was packed with cool women doing interesting things and creating change so I wasn’t the only one.
We have lots to learn from people at different career stages
Speakers included people new to their careers, mid career people and industry veterans. We all had expertise and insights to share.
Leading a community often means letting other people take centre stage
Anita is a powerhouse. She’s impressive in her own right. She has a real gift for connecting people and facilitating vibrant and affirming paces that challenge the status quo.
She’s also great at knowing when to step back and let others shine. Not all leaders know how to do that.
I had loads more reflections but those are the top 3 while I sit here writing in my dressing gown.
